2017, A Round Up

WHAT A YEAR? Everyone says this year is going to be my year and then it usually turns to shit, or y'know not as you'd really planned it. I made 5 goals for this year and low and behold I actually achieved them. Whilst the whole life plan thing is still in the works, I've managed to get myself a job and I am working on those 2018 plans, but that's a whole other post.

At the beginning of the year I was at uni and whilst  I wasn't overly happy with my living/social situation I knew I needed to just focus on my studies. I spent all of my time in the library working  constantly on essays and my dissertation. Sam was (and always is) always there to make me feel better and keep me feeling happy and I literally have no idea what I would have done without him. At the time life seemed pretty grim, like uni would never be over and I was going to spend the rest of my days on the fifth floor of the uni library lost under a pile of books. But then, plot twist, I've now finished my degree and I'm in a full time job and I miss my library days and constantly doing research. All the hard work payed off in the end and I managed to graduate with a first class degree in history and I could not be happier. Towards the end of third year, I was sure I'd never be able to get a first and everything seemed like too much but I guess living in the library payed off.

2017 was the year that I officially moved in with Sam. After staying at his flat for days on end and avoiding going back to my uni house, we're are finally living together. I'll admit you have that Monica moment when she's moving in with Chandler and cries "I'm going to live with a boy" but, SPOILER, they're not as gross as we think they are. Living with someone who understands you and who is just as weird as you is the best. You can eat takeaway in your underwear, go for late night burgers and stay up talking until the early hours of the morning just because you can. Yes you'll shout at each other for all of your annoying habits but at the end of the day they don't really matter. As long as you're happy and all that.

Speaking of happy, I've tried to actually do some fun stuff this year. I've explored my own city going to the botanical gardens, the planetarium, a cat cafe and so many gigs. I've been to explore other places like Bournemouth, Cornwall and Gloucester and cycling to Bath and back. I've been so busy trying to achieve everything I want to achieve but I've made sure that I have had time for fun along the way.

And of course, I have finally entered the world of adulthood with my full time job and crippling student debt. I have landed myself a job in a museum so you can imagine how great it feels to have a job related to my degree. It makes it feel like I haven't wasted the last 3 years and £40k. Without the structure of education to dictate my life, everything seems so open and uncertain. What will the next year hold for me? What will I be doing this time next year? That's for me to decide I guess. As this year has shown me, I am capable of achieving what I want to achieve and have a whole load of fun. With that in mind, 2018 will be a good I'm sure.
